How to Verify a Medical Certificate Online in India (HR & Employer Guide)

Published: 15 February 2026  ·  5 min read

The One-Step Verification Method: NMC Registration Number

Any medical certificate issued by a legitimate doctor in India must carry the issuing doctor's NMC (National Medical Commission) registration number. This is the single most reliable way to verify a medical certificate in under 2 minutes.

Step-by-Step NMC Verification
  1. Locate the NMC registration number on the medical certificate (format: XX-MCI-XXXXX).
  2. Go to nmc.org.in → Click “Registered Doctors” or “Doctor Verification”.
  3. Enter the registration number in the search field.
  4. The NMC portal will show the doctor's full name, qualification (MBBS/MD), state of registration, and registration status (active/lapsed).
  5. Confirm the name on the certificate matches the NMC portal entry.

If the NMC portal confirms the registration and the name matches, the certificate is genuine. Total time: under 2 minutes. This method works for certificates from any Indian doctor — clinic-issued or telemedicine-issued.

Red Flags: Signs of a Fake Medical Certificate

No NMC registration numberBiggest red flag. Any legitimate doctor must have and display their NMC number.
NMC number does not verifyNumber exists on certificate but does not match any doctor in the NMC portal.
Name mismatchNMC number verifies but the doctor's name on the certificate doesn't match the NMC record.
No clinic letterheadCertificate has no clinic name, address, or contact number — only a signature.
WhatsApp-only certificatesCertificates circulated only on WhatsApp with no official PDF and no verifiable doctor credentials.
Unusually cheap (under ₹100)Very low-cost certificates often come from unregistered practitioners or are fabricated.

How Easy Medical Certificate Certificates Are Verified

Every certificate issued by Easy Medical Certificate includes the issuing doctor's NMC registration number in a prominent location on the certificate. Our panel doctors are all NMC-registered MBBS or MD practitioners with active registration status verifiable at nmc.org.in. Sample NMC numbers on our panel:

  • Dr. Srinivas Reddy — (verifiable: Hyderabad, MD General Medicine)
  • Dr. Kavitha Nair — (verifiable: Bangalore, DNB Family Medicine)
  • Dr. Rajesh Sharma — (verifiable: New Delhi, MD Internal Medicine)

Additionally, certificates issued through our platform are available for digital verification at easymedicalcertificate.com/verify-certificate using the certificate ID printed on the document.

Legal Consequences of Submitting a Fake Medical Certificate

Submitting a fabricated or fraudulent medical certificate to an employer, educational institution, or government office is a criminal offence in India under:

  • IPC Section 197/198 (now BNS Section 229/230): Issuing or using a false certificate — punishable with imprisonment up to 7 years.
  • IPC Section 420 (now BNS Section 318): Cheating — if the false certificate is used to obtain monetary benefit (salary, insurance).
  • Termination of employment for cause, without severance
  • Blacklisting with background verification agencies (CIBIL, AuthBridge, First Advantage)
