What Is Form 1A?
Form 1A (officially: Medical Certificate for Fitness to Drive) is a document prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. It certifies that the applicant is medically fit to drive by assessing:
- Vision test: Visual acuity of 6/6 in at least one eye, colour vision, and absence of conditions that impair field of vision
- Hearing test: Ability to hear a whispered voice at 1 metre without a hearing aid
- General health: Absence of conditions that affect driving ability — including epilepsy, severe hypertension, limb amputations, and uncontrolled diabetes

- Apply at easymedicalcertificate.com: Select "Form 1A Certificate." Enter your full name, date of birth, current licence number, and address.

Which Doctor Can Sign Form 1A?
Only NMC-registered MBBS doctors (and MD/DO holders) are eligible to sign Form 1A under the Motor Vehicles Act. AYUSH practitioners (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy) are not eligible to issue Form 1A, and RTOs will reject certificates signed by them.

Form 1A Validity Period
Form 1A does not have a standardised statutory validity period — but most RTOs require the certificate to be dated within 30 days of the driving licence renewal application date.
